While both pitchers have performed at roughly the same level, the Dodgers have had more success behind Stripling, going 7-3 in his 10 starts thus far. The Phillies are 12-8 this season with Nola on the mound; however, the fifth-year veteran has recently rediscovered his 2018 All-Star form, allowing just three earned runs in his last five starts combined. Philadelphia’s woeful bullpen ended up blowing two of those games.
The Dodgers are middle-of-the-road when it comes to relief, partly because Stripling has been removed from the equation – he’s made four starts since re-joining the rotation in late June, taking over for Rich Hill (strained forearm). Los Angeles won three of those games, but Stripling has yet to go beyond five innings since his return, so the Dodgers’ bullpen should be busy on Thursday. RP Scott Alexander (3.63 ERA) remains out with assorted injuries.
